Check your microphone
Use a headset
A wired boom microphone, close to your mouth, is the single biggest difference you can make. It keeps the room — and the speaker on the PA — out of what your listeners hear.

Bleed check
Stay silent for a few seconds while the room carries on. This measures what your microphone picks up when you are not talking.
Set your speaking level
Say a sentence at the volume you will actually translate at — normal speaking voice, not loud. This teaches the page when you are talking, so it does not make you shout.
